Why ducted

Why choose ducted air conditioning?

  • Complete climate control

One powerful central system keeps every room evenly heated and cooled — ideal for Perth's hot summers and chilly winters.

  • Quiet operation

The noisy compressor sits outside. Inside, you hear little more than a gentle breeze from the vents.

  • Nothing on your walls

Ductwork is hidden in the roof, leaving clean ceilings with slim vents and your walls free.

  • Energy-smart zoning

Heat or cool only the rooms you're using, so you're not paying to condition empty bedrooms.

How it works

How ducted reverse cycle air conditioning works

A ducted system is one central air conditioner that heats and cools your whole home through hidden ductwork. Here's what goes where.

  1. 1

    Outdoor unit

The compressor and condenser sit outside, usually on the ground or a wall bracket, keeping the noise out of your home.

  2. 2

Indoor fan coil in the roof

A slim indoor unit in the roof space heats or cools the air and pushes it through the ductwork.

  3. 3

    Insulated ducts to every room

Flexible insulated ducts carry conditioned air to ceiling vents in each room or zone.

  4. 4

    Return air grille

Air is drawn back to the indoor unit through a return grille, filtered, and re-conditioned in a continuous loop.

Zoning & control

Only heat or cool the rooms you're using

Zoning divides your home into areas — typically bedrooms, living areas and the study — each controlled by a motorised damper in the ductwork. Run the living zone during the day and the bedrooms at night, and you're never paying to condition empty rooms.

With a smart zone controller you can set temperatures room by room, run schedules, and switch the system on from your phone before you get home.

We install AirTouch 5 zone controllers.

  • Lower running costs

Only the zones you select are heated or cooled.

  • Room-by-room comfort

Different temperatures for bedrooms and living areas.

  • Phone & app control

Turn it on, schedule zones and adjust from anywhere.

  • Quieter nights

Run just the bedroom zone overnight.

Ducted cost guide

2–3 bedroom home

Single storey · 7–10kW

$7,000–$12,000

4 bedroom home

Single storey · 10–14kW

$10,000–$15,000

5+ bedroom home

Single storey · 16kW+

$16,000+

Double-storey home

Inspection needed first

Double-storey homes vary a lot. If there's a provision to run a duct downstairs, one system can often do both levels. If not — and there's a real ceiling space on each level — upstairs and downstairs may need separate units. We need to inspect the home to see what's possible before we can price it.

Size of your home

Floor area, number of rooms and ceiling heights decide the system capacity you need.

Number of zones

Additional zones are about $100 each, and let you run only the rooms you're using.

Roof space & access

Tight roofs and tricky ceiling access add time — and double-storey homes need an inspection first. Difficult jobs are our specialty.

Brand & controller

Premium inverter units cost more upfront but run more efficiently. An AirTouch 5 smart controller is $1,000 extra.

Removing an evaporative cooler

$650 including tile patching; metal roof sheet patching is $800–$1,500.

Vents & finishes

Standard vents are included; slim linear vents are $250 per vent where no joists need cutting.

FAQs

Ducted air conditioning FAQs

As a guide, a fully installed ducted reverse cycle system costs $7,000–$12,000 for a 2–3 bedroom home, $10,000–$15,000 for a 4 bedroom home, and $16,000+ for 5 bedrooms or more (supply and install, inc GST). Double-storey homes need an inspection first. Extras like removing an old evaporative cooler ($650) or an AirTouch 5 smart controller ($1,000) are itemised in your written quote.

As a starting point: 7–10kW for a 2–3 bedroom home, 10–14kW for a 4 bedroom home, and 16kW+ for 5 bedrooms or more. Floor area, ceiling height, insulation and which way the house faces all matter, so we confirm the right size when we measure up.

A standard ducted install is usually half a day. If we're also removing an old evaporative cooler and patching the roof, it's a full day, including removing the evaporative cooler and patching the roof.

Yes — it's one of the most common jobs we do. We remove the old cooler ($650, including patching the tiles with your spare tiles, or capping the dropper), and install a new ducted reverse cycle system with new insulated ductwork. It's usually done in a day.

No — evaporative ducts are too big for a reverse cycle system, so we run new, correctly sized insulated ducting. Best practice is to move the outlets out towards the outside walls of the house, but we can reuse the existing outlet positions if you'd rather not patch the ceiling.

Zoning splits your home into areas — for example bedrooms and living areas — that you heat or cool separately, so you only run the rooms you're using. Additional zones are about $100 each, and an AirTouch 5 smart controller lets you control every zone from your phone.

Double-storey homes vary a lot. If there's a provision to run a duct downstairs, one system can often do both levels. If not — and there's a real ceiling space on each level — upstairs and downstairs may need separate units. We need to inspect the home to see what's possible before we can price it.

Ducted suits homes where you want even comfort in most rooms with nothing on the walls. Split systems are better value when you only need one to three rooms done. We'll give you honest advice on what makes sense for your layout and budget.

We install Australia's leading brands, including Daikin, Panasonic, Fujitsu, ActronAir, Mitsubishi Electric and Toshiba. We'll recommend the right unit for your home rather than pushing one brand.

Every installation comes with our 3-year workmanship warranty, plus a 5-year manufacturer's warranty on the air conditioning units we supply.

Yes. We service and repair all brands and models of ducted air conditioning, including older systems other companies won't touch.
